✏️ Recipe creation
I wanted to create a tasty chocolate Christmas fudge without a slow cooker. This orange chocolate fudge is an orange dream and so easy to make using only 3 ingredients and a microwave. No candy thermometer is needed either!
This orange and chocolate fudge is a no-bake recipe that you can whip up quickly. It’s perfect for a last-minute Christmas gift. It also lasts up to a month so it’s great to made ahead.
You can even store your chocolate and orange fudge squares in a cute mason jar decorated with a ribbon for the perfect homemade gift just like in my dark chocolate cranberry cookie mix jars!
🥘 Ingredients
This orange chocolate fudge recipe calls for the following ingredients:
- Dark semi-sweet chocolate: use cooking chocolate or melting wafers/chips for ease of melting.
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Orange extract: use extract over essence for a better taste.
See the recipe card for quantities.
Top tip: For accuracy, it’s best to weigh your ingredients rather than using cups.
♻️ Substitutions / Variations
Ingredient substitutions
I like to use finely grated orange zest to decorate my chocolate and orange fudge, but this is optional. You can leave it out or swap for orange or festive sprinkles instead.
If you prefer a creamier chocolate fudge, you can swap the dark chocolate for milk chocolate. Note this will also give you a slightly softer fudge texture and will be more like a chocolate orange creamsicle fudge.
Alternatively, create a white chocolate orange fudge by swapping the dark chocolate for 475 g (17 oz) of white chocolate (based on my best-ever white chocolate peppermint fudge recipe).
Flavour options
For more festive flavour, why not stir in a few tablespoon of dried cranberries to your mixture before adding it to your tin to set.
Alternatively, turn your chocolate orange fudge boozy by stirring in 1 tablespoon of Cointreau orange liqueur to your fudge mixture.
📖 Method
Step 1: In a heatproof bowl, heat the chocolate (broken into pieces) and condensed milk in the microwave for 20sec bursts, stirring in between, until the chocolate has melted.
Step 2: Stir in the orange extract until combined.
Step 3: Pour mixture into an 8-inch baking tin lined with greaseproof paper and decorate with zest if using.
Step 4: Refrigerate for at least 1hrs until set. Cut into small squares and enjoy!
💭 Top tips
- Use dark semi-sweet chocolate (or chips) from the baking aisle for ease of melting. Make sure to break your chocolate into small, even pieces.
- Melt your chocolate slowly using no more than 20sec bursts in the microwave to prevent it from burning or separating.
- Decorate your fudge in the tin with orange zest, sprinkles or pieces of Terry's chocolate orange before it sets.
- Even if your baking pan is non-stick, line your tin with baking parchment or greaseproof paper. Leave a small overhang of paper to make it easier to lift your fudge out of the tin after it sets.
❔ Recipe FAQs
Your chocolate orange fudge should last for 2 to 3 weeks (though often longer!) stored in an airtight container at room temperature. Keep in the fridge if it’s hot where you live.
Yes! You can freeze your chocolate orange fudge wrapped in a layer of cling film and a layer of foil for up to 2 months. Defrost and enjoy!
No, for this microwave fudge recipe you should not use evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk. It needs condensed milk to set properly.
If your chocolate orange fudge is too soft, then store it in the fridge to firm up.
