Hi, I'm Kachina!
As the sugar addict behind Sweet Mouth Joy, you can usually find me in the kitchen whipping up some tasty desserts and sweet treats.
If I'm not baking, I'm usually glued to my laptop, frantically typing up recipes or procrastinating by looking up cute cat videos and hunting for my next fantasy romance read.
Of course, since I'm powered by the goodies that I bake, my poor keyboard is usually dusted with icing sugar and a smear of chocolate or two!
A little bit about me...
Ever since my grandma helped me to bake my first batch of fairy cakes as a clumsy kid, I’ve been hooked on baking. Being part Filipino, I also LOVE to feed people.
Born and raised in England, I've always loved traditional cakes and bakes. Afternoon tea is one of my favourite things - how can anyone resist those cute tiny desserts?! But I also love experimenting with new flavours and combinations, especially anything with an Asian influence like matcha or ube.
I’ll admit, as a self-taught home baker, most things I make tend to taste better than they look. Creating new recipes and tinkering with existing ones has always been a passion of mine though. I've spent years in the kitchen cooking up my favourite desserts and getting better with each attempt. I've learnt from first-hand experience what really works at home in your own kitchen (and what doesn't!).
I believe that everyone can cook up delicious treats at home and share these with the people they love. My aim is to help people do this!
It was never my plan to become a food blogger since I'd always thought you needed to be a specially-trained French patisserie chef to even consider it.
For years, I used to tell all of my friends about the recipes I'd found online or in old cookbooks and what tweaks worked for me (as well as some of the ones that didn't). All the while I'd force-feed them my sugary goodness experiments!
Eventually, I thought to myself - why not go for it? - and in 2020 I finally plucked up the courage to start up a blog and share my recipe creations with all of you lovely people.
The feedback and support blew me away!
Now, I get to share my love of desserts with everyone. It makes me so happy to know that there are people out there enjoying the results of my recipe testing and sharing their very own homemade desserts with their loved ones.
